Thank you to everyone who stopped by the first ever Modular stall at the Independent Label Market in London this past weekend. We hope that those of you who picked up one of the Tame Impala x Erol Alkan 12"s or a copy of our newspaper Modulations are enjoying them. We're also grateful that you helped us raise money for Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy. Finally, a big congrats to the winners of the Tame Impala test pressings, RDIO subscription and our Modular cookies.
Thanks to the ILM for having us. See you next year!
Set your eyes to stun with Ego's optical overload of Love On the Run. Not one to do things by halves, the Australian DJ/visual artist spins the colour palette into another dimension with tripped out effects and choppy cuts.
Beni's EP, backed with remixes from Riton and L-Vis 1990, is now available to UK and European fans via i-tunes and other good digital retailers.
For those who couldn't make it to the Independent Label Market, here's another excerpt from our Modulations newspaper. The free press hits UK indie record stores soon.
Asger Carlsen is a Danish-born, New York-based artist whose work generally starts in a photography studio but with subtle yet acute manipulation ends up far from such sterile beginnings. Through a process of post-production Carlsen crafts tableaus of mutant bodies, hybrid forms, and odd appendages that can be unnerving, grotesque, enchanting and very weirdly beautiful. His work is moving in a way you wouldn't necessarily expect you'd like to be moved, and the ambience resonates long after viewing.
He created some images to accompany Cut Copy's new album, and we asked him a few questions about his dark art.
Beni reveals some more thunder to coincide with today's EP release. Sharing the same vocal talents as Love On The Run, Summer's Gone sees Prince Terrence in step with the track's cold, techno heart. A sinister dark alley acid workout. A sounding of the siren to the underground resistance.
Bookending the four track EP is Riton's remix, "a frantic affair of warped vocals and jabbing synths that's set to send adrenaline levels skyrocketing" (Groupie).
The following article is an excerpt from the first issue of our newspaper Modulations. Available at this week's Independent Label Market in London alongside the limited edition 12" of Erol Alkan's Tame Impala rework, the free press features music and art recommended by the broad Modular family, interviews with artists Asger Carlson and Hattie Stewart, and plenty more.
In October this year Helsinki duo Shine 2009 released their 2nd album and their first on Modular Recordings, 'Our Nation'. In November Cut Copy released their 4th record, 'Free Your Mind'. Cut Copy invited Shine 2009 to open for them on their European tour so it seemed like an opportune time to introduce the two groups before they spend three weeks on the road together. Glen Goetze from Modular connected Sami Suova of Shine 2009 with Dan Whitford of Cut Copy.
