G E T O F F T H E B E A C H

The Presets’ Kim Moyes conjures images of white-sand beaches on the face of the moon and slow motion circus rides on his new mixtape, entitled G E T O F F T H E B E A C H.
It’s one loopy, tripped out summer vacation you wish you were on, veering from the bendy early synth work of Raymond Scott to the politico-funk of Public Enemy to the twisted techno of Aphex Twin and Compuphonic and Kolombo with a polite dash of Sepultura thrown in for good measure, G E T O F F T H E B E A C H feels fabulous at midday and sublime at midnight. Hit it up from here.
We’ve been sitting on this one for a while, but we are now able to tell you that Apocalypso is available now in a squashed flat 12″ vinyl version from the Mod Shop. The full tracklist from the CD has been pressed including singles, My People, This Boy’s In Love and the newie Talk Like That. Experience the raw energy of The Presets encapsulated in a vinyl record now.
Thanks for reading.

Van She Party Keeps Rolling in Australia!
August 8, 2008 on 1:51 pm | In Touring | 1 Comment
Gearing up for what is set to be a huge 2008, those fearless explorers of new-wave and post-punk, Van She, are celebrating the release of their debut album V by hitting the road with their next installment of what’s quickly becoming everyone’s favorite party du jour, a Van She Party.
Merging their indie-club following with sweaty nightclub dwellers, the Van She Party avalanche keeps building momentum as it rolls boldly where no party has gone before, promising to pick up old faithfuls and take new friends in its wake.
While the band headline proceedings they also step out from behind the instruments to DJ some tricky techno and a selection of their globally notorious remixes. The Van She Party will also be bringing along friends and comrades on the tour including live sets by Lost Valentinos and Mission Control with DJ’s Knife Machine on the decks – with more supports to be announced soon.
Make sure you catch Van She at one of their album release parties as they begin to fulfill their promise as the band to watch in 2008.
Dates and ticket information can be found on our touring page.
Van She’s debut album is out Saturday, Aug 9. Your first chance to hear the aural pleasure of V is on their MySpace. It’s also been JJJ’s Album Of The Week - so you may have heard the jams there too. Pre-order their album from JB HIFI.

Chris Ross & Myles Heskett Depart Wolfmother
August 8, 2008 on 10:49 am | In Recordings | No Comments
It’s a sad but hopeful day for Modular as we announce the departure of founding members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett from the mighty Wolfmother. Bass and organist Ross & drummer Heskett will continue working together as a pair focusing their energies on material for an exciting new project, the details of which are to come in the near future.
Singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale will carry on Wolfmother and has our full support as we now embark on Wolfmother - Phase II. Stockdale has been developing new material and is set to connect with producer Dave Sardy (producer of the debut self-titled LP) in LA before the end of the year to sew the seeds of a new album. The fruits of these sessions will hopefully see a new Wolfmother album in early 2009.
Wolfmother’s self titled debut album is one of the most successful Australian rock releases this century. It has now sold over 1.3 million copies and received multiple ARIA Awards and a Grammy – making them the first Aussie band to receive such an award in 25 years. Other highlights for the group have included appearances at just about every major music festival in the world, sharing stages with Pearl Jam, The Who and The Strokes, and a special performance inducting the legendary Led Zeppelin into the UK’s Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame.
The last 3 years have been one hell of a trip for the band and it’s been a remarkable journey to witness - from the first time we came across them at the Vic On The Park in Enmore playing to a crowd of about 6 people to becoming one of the most recognisable acts not only in Australia but the World. We’re immensely proud of what they’re been able to achieve, and wish them all the best in their diverging endeavours in the future.
Andrew, Myles and Chris will make no public statements at this time except to say that they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead.
Long live Wolfmother!

D is for Disco, E is for Dancing
August 8, 2008 on 10:15 am | In Recordings | 1 CommentThe Bang Gang Deejays are renown for laying down club rub after club rub to the point where everyone simultaneously experiences a dance climax and the rafters rattle with the heaving bodily mass of a thousand people loosing their minds. The Bang Gang Deejays are Ajax, Gus Da Hoodrat, Jamie Doom, DJ Damage, Nolan Nolan and Dangerous Dan, whether you’ve heard of them as a collective or individually you’ll know they can throw one helluva party.
Last year we gave you Light Sound Dance, otherwise known as LSD – the double disc compilation to out-dance all other compilations. This year we’ve got a new fruity frappe of jams selected and mixed together by The Bang Gang themselves, it goes by the name of D is for Disco, E is for Dancing. It’ll drop in late October/early November in Australia but more information on this mix will trickle in by the week, so stay wide-eyed and focused on modularpeople.com for news.
Without further fluffing about, we have a teaser for D is for Disco, E is for Dancing online for you right now. It features about 45 songs in 10 minutes, covering everything from Ghostface Killah to Kid Cudi, Treasure Fingers, a little baile funk and a whole slab of disco. So either sign up to our ModCast or refresh your iTunes to grab the goodness.

25 years and around $6 billion in the making, and they’re about to start the first tests

now, i dont know a lot about physics, but as a complete outsider it seems like this whole thing has been built to settle a drinking bet between a couple of boffins who are arguing over a certain theory, which would produce a hypothetical outcome.

of course if the drinking bet is proven wrong, a black hole could be created and we might just end up in bizarro world.
the thing first fires in two days and then the first ‘collision’ in a few more months, so time will tell!
see you on the flipside,

abandonned 70s housing complex in Sanjhih near Tapei, Taiwan.
it was abandonned during construction because of ghosts or lack of money (your choice).
modular should probably install summer headquarters there, it even matches the colour code.
pictures from here and there.
