Psychic, the debut album by Darkside (Nicolas Jaar and guitarist Dave Harrington), was released in Australia last month to worldwide critical acclaim. The band is pleased to announce some much-anticipated Australian tour dates for April 2014, with tickets going on sale this Thursday (November 21). Sydney's up-and-comers Movement will be supporting all shows.
We're psyched to be involved in two events for Sydney Festival 2014.
First up, Modular are in full party mode with a special Paradiso happening at Town Hall on Friday 17th January. Headlining the event is the visionary Juan Atkins, a man responsible for pioneering the most influential electronic discography since Kraftwerk. Blurring his name across aliases Cybotron, Model 500 and Infinity to release many classics of sublime Detroit techno, Atkins stands as an undisputed driving force in electronic music. Movement will also be bringing their seductive late night sounds to the stage alongside live from Club Mod's wordlife and Roland Tings, and DJ duo Softwar.
Fast forward to Tuesday 21st January for the exclusive NSW premiere of 100 Million Nights at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. Canyons collaborate with visual artist Daniel Boyd to create a mesmerising audio-visual experience, performed live as a four piece band, overlooked by three giant connecting screens that showcase Boyd's breathtaking visuals. They'll be joined on the night by HIVE, former Battles frontman and solo artist Tyondai Braxton's multimedia performance/installation.
Tickets are on sale here at 9AM on Monday 28 October.
With over 200k Soundcloud plays for Us, nods from Boiler Room, Pitchfork and XLR8R, and radio support from Rinse FM, NTS Radio, Radio 1, Making Time Radio (NPR), KCRW, KEXP, and Live 105, Movement are fast making a name for themselves globally, despite only having a few live shows in their hometown of Sydney under their belt.
Catch the guys at one of their upcoming Australian dates below and pick up the digital single package with remixes by Kowton and Giraffage through iTunes.
Movement's Sean, Jessie and Lewis round off a crazy release week with a cruisy mixtape of the greatest soul vocalists and chill productions. Shedding some light on their signature style of brooding night music, it reveals much about these illusive personalities (we drill them with a Q&A below) while doubling as a golden companion piece to their latest and greatest tune 'Us'. Soak it up!
The guys are warming up for their Sydney single launch on Saturday 26th October with interstate dates to follow. Watch this space...
Following a Boiler Room premiere and an XLR8R free download, Kowton's immersive take on Movement's Us can now be grabbed from the Modular soundcloud for donuts. Hear the Bristol producer strip the mood piece down to its essential elements, altering its atmosphere with drilling beats and earth shattering bass pulses.
You can complete the EP, which has been released worldwide and includes the heat-seeking original as well as some pure groove from Giraffage, here.
Having been ordained Best New Music by Pitchfork today, Movement's Us receives the tense video treatment. Directed by Dave Ma, whose previous work includes cinematic visualisations of Flight Facilities' Clair De Lune and Foals' Inhaler, the clip explores themes of faith and trust within the context of East LA gang culture.
Continuing Movement's shadowy, tender take on dance music built at night, the single is now available on Australian i-tunes (UK 23 Sept/US 24 Sept). Backed with a snappy remix by San Fran's bedroom innovator Giraffage and a boot rattling UK bass takeover from Kowton, it's already picked up support from Erol Alkan, Sinden, Yuksek, Riton and Aston Shuffle.
Catch some of their live magic at a show below!
