Modcast #153: Raf Daddy
Raf Daddy - aka Raphael Rundell - met Joe Goddard (taking time out from his day job as one fifth of Hot Chip) through a party scene that saw them share deck duties at the legendary Greco-Roman parties.
Upon venturing into the studio in an attempt to replicate some of the records that they'd lost themselves in the night before, Raf found himself laying down vocals over Joe's skipping, bassomatic backing tracks safe in the knowledge that they'd soon be replaced by someone with sweeter, more melodious tones. In the end, it was Raf's voice that characterized and personalized The 2 Bears.
If you're free and feeling spontaneous this weekend, he's playing FOR 2013 in Croatia, tickets available here. EX-YU passport holders are eligible for discounted tickets, grab yours.
Win: Super Rare 2manydjs Giveaway
Those attending FOR 2013 this weekend are eligible to win one of 3 extremely rare 2manydjs mix CD packs.
These mixtapes are meticulously programmed by 'The Dee Wees', aka 2ManyDJs' Dewaele brothers, and released by culture club PAM for their under the counter mix CD racket in 2007 and 2009. They have never been commercially available, traded like the underground currency amongst the inner sanctum. PAMMIX008 is a 2CD set celebrating the rawest Chicago house Trax (with PAM residents Jerkmaster Perks & Rohie Rockin Romanian raising the steaks on disc due) while PAMMIX007 is a slomo journey of unidentified objects entitled 'Spa'z The Place' with mind toasting artwork from Misha Hollenbach.
Enter via Facebook. You'll need to have tickets to FOR 2013 to enter, so grab yours here. Discounted rates available here for EX-YU passport holders.
Watch: Pond - Xanman
The second track from Pond's upcoming 5th album Hobo Rocket is in the wild! 'Xanman' is a sonic onslaught with the Perth boys at their psychedelic, jamming best. Hobo Rocket is out August 2nd (AUS), August 5th (UK/EU), August 6th (USA).
Pre-orders are now available for the new album, get in early for the digital release via iTunes or on the Modshop for the vinyl. Check out the album announcement for full details on this new album, including first track 'Giant Tortoise'.
Recommends: Leon Vynehall
In a world saturated with perfectly quantised and clinical sounding electronic productions, someone as raw and real as Leon Vynehall sticks out for miles. The Brighton producer oscillates between woozy and sharp, choppy sample house, drawing from a broad palette impossible to pigeon hole, with a romantic yesteryear feel that's on par with back in the day.
Marking his territory over 4 x EPs including a 2-tracker on George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic label, Vynehall has also spread his wings in collaboration with Christian Piers as Laszlo Dancehall. Web watchers stay glued to Boiler Room tomorrow to catch them spinning round and round as part of the ManMakeMusic takeover.

Modcast #152: Burek
Saturday night at FOR 2013 sees Croatian label Burek light the island of Hvar up with their very own party. In light of this and to get the fans and the uninitiated ready, Pytzek, label co-owner and deck legend in his own right, mixed up this monster Modcast with a special all-Burek edition.
The other half of the Burek ownership and Hvar local, Mislav, also put together a bit of a guide for those visiting Hvar for the first time or looking to explore the place a little deeper. Full details after the jump, as well as the full Modcast tracklist.
Recommends: Horse Meat Disco Beach Party
DJ veterans Horse Meat Disco have held down arguably the world's most important disco club night at The Eagle for nearly 10 years. They'll be bringing those same guaranteed good-times with them to Croatia as part of the FOR 2013 family. Read on for a cheeky playlist from the lads, showing off their much lauded disco chops.
Two of the boys will be bringing the fun on Saturday night alongside 2manydjs, James Murphy & Bag Raiders. Tickets on sale now here. EX-YU & HR passport holders are eligible for a discount ticket rate, details here.
Live: wordlife x Club Mod 'Club Of Life' EP Tour
wordlife are releasing their 'Breakthrough / Small Talk' EP on Club Mod July 1st. To back it up, the boys are firing up the van and splashing out down the East Coast of Australia; showing off their forward-thinking house sensibilities, destined for top-billing in your favourite late night playlist.
Get acquainted with their sound before the tour kicks off on July 6th at GoodGod Small Club in Sydney, full dates and info below. Stay tuned for more information on their Club Mod release in the coming weeks.
Recommends: Maxmillion Dunbar
Maxmillion Dunbar joins the camp of hot-on-the-tip producers that we've recruited to remix our next batch of Club Mod releases, tackling Melbourne demented house lab rat Roland Tings.
One of the spirits leading America's rogue dance music renaissance, Dunbar is one half of D.C. duo Beautiful Swimmers, presides over the label Future Times and has a couple of freaky white labels 12"s on Resident Advisor's label of 2012 L.I.E.S.
Live: Tropics #1, Paris
Tropics is our start the summer, high humidity disco happening at the flourishing canopy that is Nuba in Paris on Wednesday June 19, with Canyons for the first time in Europe, Zombie Zombie live, and DJ Kaos.
